I'm typing this update from a computer in McDonalds. For the record, McD's internet sucks. It's not extremely fast, half the keyboards are missing keys, you can't have more than one window open at a time etc etc...
Anyway, since my last post we looked to two (count em! TWO!) goth shops which made
laputain and
darthsappho happy. Maudlinrose, I took a couple of photos of some shoes there for you to look at!
Then we came back into town, and went to a shop called Minotaur. Now, if you came up to me and asked me to describe my perfect shop, Minotaur would be IT. (Except I probably wouldn't bother with the comic section.) There was just...so...much...POP CULTURE! Videos! Books! DVD! Actionfigures! SO MUCH COOL! I bought a Faith action figure, which can go next to Spike and Xander when I get home. Laputain had said much about this shop, and she was so right. It's marvellous.
After this we went to meet up with Doctorcal for dinner, then hurried back to the con. We missed most of the opening ceremony, but not The Great Debate, on the subject that "Humans are Unnatural Creatures". The 'for' side, featuring Poppy Z. Brite, had some good arguments, but I think the 'against' side won when Neil Gaiman looked up a few definitions of the word 'natural', found that one meaning is illegitmate, and said that that his argument was thus 'All men are bastards'. Funny!
After that, with me starting to crash again, we went back to the nice place where there are beds. Mmm, beds.
Today we got to the con in time to get to a panel on Arthurian legends and the like. The most I know about that is from reading Sir Gawain, but it was fun. Then...
VICTORIA MARKETS OMG!!!!!!!
(Also, Laputain went to Heartland Records which made her very happy, but...) TEH MARKETS!!!!!!!!!!
I bought a top, five kinds of fudge (chocolate, kahlua, m&m, jaffa and mango), a giant lollypop, honey bears, mandarin sours, and a hat. I think the hat looks very nice on me. Funky, in a stylish way.
I loved the markets. Oh, for more time and more money!
After that we got back to con for Neil Gaiman's Guest of Honour speech. He read from his new book, Anaise Boys, and showed us some clips from the Mirrormask movie, which looks to be stunning and very, very weird.
Then, a panel on cephalopods, which was...well, odd.
Then, one on forensics in sf and horror, which was interesting and I enjoyed muchly.
Now,
laputain and I are on our way back to Cal's place so that we may get clothse for the ball tonight before coming back in.
Have I mentioned how much I love the tram system?
Am still wanting to dive with the sharks. Will book tomorrow if my visa is in good enough shape...
Must post before my money runs out!
PS. Have not bought HPB yet. Will do so when I get home. Am looking foward to it, but avoiding bookstores this weekend...
